The workshop will cover basic biology and life cycle, conservation and protection activities and how to get involved.  Beginning at 7pm at Turtle House, Tuesday’s workshop is in English and Wednesday’s will be in Portuguese, other languages can be catered for on request.  For more information and for directions to Turtle House please email info@turtlesos.org or call 974 5020.

Since the September 11th bombings of 2001, several governments have stated that threats to international security, through terrorism, weapons trading, organised crime etc, are often from the world’s weakest states. In 2002 the United States declared that these weak and falling states “pose as great a danger to our national interest as strong states.”

Of the 141 countries on the index, Cape Verde is ranked No. 123, well ahead of “other touristic destinations” such as Turkey (98), Morocco (96) & the Dominican Republic (91). The only two African countries which finished higher were the Seychelles  (126) & Mauritius (133) respectively.

Number 141 on the index is the Slovak Republic, with Hungary then Chile close behind. Then at the other end is Somalia at No.1, followed by Afghanistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
