Sal’s Street cats and dogs need your help !
Up until now, controlling the numbers of street dogs and cats has been achieved through Strychnine poisoning, a very cost effective but not particularly humane method, which sometimes claims domestic pets as victims as well. We petitioned to Government to address the serious issues of animal welfare on Sal and are happy to announce the President and his Government have given us their full backing to implement the following actions:
· To Introduce a responsible programme of neutering
· To bring in international veterinary surgeons to carry out much needed medical operations to street animals
· To ban the use of poison for animal population control, including heavy fines for anyone caught poisoning animals
· To construct an animal clinic and sanctuary for street animals
To date:
We have carried out 2 free clinics for street animals for parasite infestation.
We have been donated land from an Italian Businessman to build a clinic.
We have secured Vets to arrive in August September November and January .
The Government are providing Land in Pedro De Lume to build a sanctuary for street animals.
However we desperately need funding to carry out all of the above and we are asking you to please donate whatever you can.
What else can you do to help?
If you can donate any medicine you have left over when departing from Sal, this can be used to help many animals, Or any clothes jewellery etc for our charity stall. Drop off points are Papayas Bar and Restaurant & Turtle Shack in Santa Maria.
When you go home please ask your local vets to donate medicine they can spare.
